Bluesfest 2021 Cancelled Following Advice From The NSW Health Minister

The iconic and much loved Bluesfest festival is being forced to cancel for its second year in a row following a public health order issued by the New South Wales Minister for Health.

The announcement comes after infectious Queensland travellers attended a number of venues in the Byron Bay area with a man becoming infected after sitting at a table close to a confirmed case.

Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said, "While the cancellation of Bluesfest is disappointing for music lovers and the local community, I hope that ticket holders would support Bluesfest and hold on to their tickets as I understand Bluesfest will be working on a new date as soon as possible."

Bluesfest Director, Peter Noble said, "This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to make. We really wanted to be at the forefront of the return of live music at Pre-COVID-19 level. We feel deeply for everybody affected, the fans, the artists, and the hard-working Bluesfest team. But in the end, the health of our community must come first."

The festival was due to run at Byron Events Farm (formerly Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm) from Thursday 1 April up until Monday 5 April, featuring an All-Australian lineup including Jimmy Barnes, Tash Sultana, Kev Carmody, Ocean Alley, The Living End and more.

As of 5pm today, restrictions will apply to the local government areas of Tweed Shire Council, Ballina Shire Council, Byron Shire Council and Lismore City Council. These restrictions will remain in place until 11:59pm on Monday 5 April, when the community will be updated. More information HERE.

NSW Health urges everyone in NSW, especially in the Tweed, Ballina, Byron and Lismore areas, with even the mildest symptoms, such as headache, fatigue, cough, sore throat or runny nose, to come forward immediately for testing, then isolate until they receive a negative result.

We will be contacting all patrons directly via email with an update on how to proceed. We encourage ticket holders to hold onto their tickets for the rescheduled event with more details to come.
