ZEDSIX (album launch) and The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra take over the Night Cat on Friday 12th November with a concert to launch the debut record ‘The Shape Of Jazz’ where the sounds of boom-bap and be-bop collide to sound like the future! 

In the late slot we have a post-lockdown shakedown with the afro-beat juggernaut that is The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra with full band live on stage.

ZEDSIX is a live and studio experiment in boom-bap and be-bop that sounds like the future ! The band brings a dynamic live set of sounds reimagining the golden-era’s of jazz and hip-hop with this stellar line-up:  ZEDSIX bass, Onesixth vox, Fem Belling vox, Nick Lester sax, Mina Yu keyboards, Ben Charnley drums, Tom Showtime turntables.

‘The Shape of Jazz’, the debut album by ZEDSIX was nominated for Best Jazz Album in the Music Victoria Awards and the track ‘Lonely Woman’ included in Frank Yamma’s 2020 ARIA award nominated release. This full length album showcases ZEDSIX in a series of musical portraits with an array of jazz and hip-hop artists such as Mike Zoot, Cazeaux OSLO,  Frank Yamma, Keyon & Emanuel Harrold, Prowla, Chet Faker, Stogie T, Solillaquists Of Sound, Querator, Barney Rachabane, Lemi Ghariokwu, D-Fro, Tumi The Be, Chris Mcnulty, Mantra, J-Red, Uncle Robbie Thorpe and more.

The mammoth 18-piece Public Opinion Afro Orchestra takes you on a pulsing, percussive journey into classic afro-beat. Led by fierce vocals and a howling horn section, it is a fitting 21st Century response to the world-shaking music of 1970s Nigeria defined by Fela Kuti. Their 2019 ‘Naming & Blaming’ record pulls no punches, its powerful brand of original afro-beat shoots straight to the heart, mind and hips of the listener whilst taking aim at contemporary global politics and Australia’s chequered history.

Masks must be worn in the venue at all times. Refusal to wear a mask may result in denied entry to, or ejection from the venue.
