Straight off the back of acclaimed live dates across New South Wales, respected local singer-songwriter William Crighton returns with his new single, ‘This Is Magic’.

‘This Is Magic’ is the follow up to Crighton’s powerful ‘Your Country’ released earlier this year, and the second track to be lifted from his forthcoming third studio album, due out in 2021.

Shot in modern day Bellbird NSW, the music video paints a vivid picture of regional Australia complete with prawn cocktails, cabanossi and cheese, the classic Holden ute, local bowlo, ride-on mower and more, and is reminiscent of iconic 90’s films like Priscilla Queen Of The Desert and The Castle. “But above all it’s a love story”, Crighton says, grinning. 

The song itself is decidedly more laid-back in feel, with lyrics like -- 

“Driving down the street of Cessnock, past the servo and the swimming pool. Solid Rock on 2CHR, couple of kids outside the chicken shop bein’ cool.”

Starring fabulous Melbourne-based drag queen Viktoria Bitter, the clip also features a raft of William’s closest friends and family. It was directed by William, his wife Julieanne Crighton, Andrew Johnston and Aaron Lyon.
 

"This was a real fun video to make. Lots of mates and family plus a few innocent bystanders. 2020 has reorganised our priorities but you still don't have to go far to find a bit of magic!", says William. 

The track itself also features vocals from Julieanne Crighton, guitars from Jeff Lang and didgeridoo from William Barton. 

An accomplished performer, Crighton has over the past few months taken his captivating live show to towns and cities State-wide, Sydney Morning Herald noting the “cinematic level of immersion” and “engrossing, ambitious work” in their 4.5 star review of his recent Sydney gig. 

Since the release of his 2016 critically acclaimed self-titled debut, William Crighton has established himself as one of Australia’s foremost contemporary songsmiths and performers. Darkly majestic follow-up Empire (2018) was named Album of the Year by Hoodoo Gurus’ Dave Faulkner in the Saturday Paper, while Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst has sung the praises of Crighton’s deeply resonant, ineffably Australian vocal delivery; a nod to his roots in the NSW Riverina, Wiradjuri Country. 

2020 was going to be Crighton’s biggest international touring year including his Glastonbury Festival debut. “We’ve been working really hard over there and had a lot planned, but so did everyone. We’re lucky in Australia to have dodged the worse of it to date, and I’m grateful that my family and I are here…we're even playing a bit now, hopefully going to be touring a lot more soon”.
