Blunted & Way-2-Fonky are proud to present the long awaited arrival of hip hop legends ULTRAMAGNETIC MC's. Kool Keith, TR Love and Ced Gee will grace our shores for the first, and perhaps the only time, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their seminal album Critical Beatdown.

Released in 1988, the height of hip hop's golden age, Critical Beatdown was unmatched in originality, ferocity and innovation. Breaking new ground in sampling techniques the Ultramagnetic crew took the time honoured screams of James Brown to sinister new territory, tearing up and spitting out gnarled cuts of vicious funk. Armed with the E-MU SP1200 sampler, primary producer Ced Gee brought avant garde experimentation to the street, laying the foundation for spastic sample manglers such as Dilla and Madlib. With Critical Breakdown Kool Keith and Ced Gee cemented their reputation as rap's densest lyricists, spitting elliptical imagery with a deranged flow unsurpassed over twenty years later. Despite the album's crunchy lo-fi aesthetic and lyrical acrobatics tracks such as 'Ego Trippin' and 'Travelling at the Speed of Thought' became genre-shaping singles sampled by the likes of Nas and Gang Starr. This is as blunt and crazy as hip hop could get, spawning legions of imitators and fans from Odd Future to Eminem.

On main support duties are Big Village supergroup LOOSE CHANGE. Featuring Ellesquire and Rapaport on the mic, Sam Z on the decks and P Major handling production duties, Loose Change have been dominating the Sydney hip hop scene alongside compadres Daily Meds and True Vibenation. Blazing a trail of Rhodes keys, punchy beats and an honest yet sharp flow, expect an intense warm up from these guys.

DJs Mike Who and Frenzie, two selectors known for their deep and eclectic range, will be bringing crates of choice vintage cuts to set the scene for a night celebrating the glory days of hip hop.

This is your first and probably only chance to see the Ultramagnetic MC's in Australia, a rare opportunity and a privilege for fans of essential classic hip hop.
