Description: Two treasure hunters, a park ranger and an unhinged ex-cop tangle with a Yowie, the Australian Bigfoot, deep in the jungles of Far North Queensland.
When underground film director Richard Wolstencroft's feature film "Pearls Before Swine" was not accepted by the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), Wolstencroft authored a letter of complaint to MIFF, a letter whose call for support for underground and local film was enthusiastically backed by other frustrated emerging film-makers. With their support, Richard Wolstencroft established the Melbourne Underground Film Festival in 2000 as a home for avantegarde, cutting edge, and underground film from both local filmmakers and abroad.
In the fifteen years of its existence MUFF has been no stranger to pushing boundaries. Showing movies such as A Serbian Film and even an illegal screening of LA Zombie, the Melbourne Underground Film Festival is dedicated to showing the life of cinema in all of its shapes and forms. It has also helped propel many Australian filmmakers into the greater mainstream, showing works of such directors such as James Wan and Greg McLean. The Melbourne Underground Film Festival is looking forward to many more years of controversy and discovery.
