‘THIS WORLD’ is the stunning debut release from a quartet formed by four of Australia’s most established and celebrated jazz musicians.

Born in New Zealand, pianist Mike Nock is a living legend of jazz. 

Following his extensive session work in New York throughout the seventies and eighties, Nock was awarded the New Zealand Order Of Merit and became a teacher at Sydney’s prestigious Conservatorium of Music. His bassist Jonathan Zwartz has accompanied Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Katie Noonan and Melbourne’s cutting-edge contemporary jazz group The Vampires, as well as scoring film and television. 

Saxophonist Julien Wilson has contributed to over eighty original albums, and received the 2015 APRA Art Music Award for ‘Excellence in Jazz’, while drummer Hamish Stuart is an Australian jazz mainstay, the rhythmic backbone behind acts like Jade MacRae, The Catholics, and Jackie Orzacksky. 

Exceptionally recorded and produced, the album features a program of nine brand new compositions created specifically for this album.

‘THIS WORLD’ articulates the struggle, strength and sense of hope faced each day. Despite this album being the band's debut, the musicians have enjoyed established relationships with each other in a variety of formats for many years before coming together as a quartet. The shared history and personal connection between them all can be felt in every note.

The Stu Hunter Trio

Award-winning pianist and composer Stu Hunter’s latest solo piano album ‘The Beautiful Things’ was launched at this year’s Sydney Festival as a homage to love and family. For this performance, Hunter presents the opening set with his new trio featuring the irrepressible engine room of drummer Warren Trout and bassist Noel Mason. 

Hunter won an Australian Independent Record Award for ‘Best Independent Jazz Album’ in 2010 for his previous work ‘The Gathering’, and was nominated in the ‘Best Jazz Album’ category for his 2016 work ‘The Migration’. 

Expect originals and re-workings of music from some of Stu’s previous releases, combined with his talent for jazz, soul and funk keyboards.
