The Trouble With Templeton
The Trouble With Templeton are excited to announce their national tour in celebration of their first full-length LP “Rookie”, which will be released in Australia on 2nd August 2013.
Adventurous, gleefully eccentric and hauntingly melodic, Rookie is an album that leaves a distinct musical impression. The Brisbane five-piece have crafted a record that defies expectations: it's full of warmth and heart, as well as a willingness to make music that's not afraid to affect or surprise.
Following on from 2011's debut mini-album Bleeders (made by songwriter and front man Thomas Calder in his bedroom), 2012 saw the band expand to its current five-piece lineup (the members are all friends from school), play festivals (Big Sound, Harvest and Falls), and tour extensively with the likes of Of Monsters and Men, Father John Misty and Julia Stone.
At the start of 2013 they settled in with Matt Redlich (Emma Louise, Hungry Kids of Hungary) and between bouts of touring the USA for SXSW and Canadian Music Week, recorded what was to become "Rookie".
Instantly apparent is the added grunt the band now have, alongside their playful willingness to not pay attention to rules or structures. As a result, the album is a whirling dervish of moods and colours, of tempos and genres, melodies and layers, tackling concepts behind relationships and the way unique human narratives emerge from different perspectives.
The stirring lilt of their brand new single, 'You Are New', encapsulates this distinct TTWT approach. A gentle swell underpins the waltzing guitars and keys, with Thomas' voice soaring amid it all to provide the emotional crux.
The band are thrilled to be taking their new album out on the road for a national tour, and playing with some of their favourite acts around Australia, including Battleships, Holy Holy and Ali Barter.
