THE TIPSY SCHOLARS

The Tipsy Scholars (Formally known as The Gypsy Scholars) are an Australian indie folk band

known for their heartfelt song writing and energetic live performances. Since forming in 2014,

the band has made a firm impression on their twin home towns of Sydney and Canberra;

acquiring a loyal and raucous fanbase. With a rich and diverse array of original works, The Tipsy

Scholars tell tales of travel, love and life in a way that only four guys with varying amounts of

facial and an assortment of instruments can do.

This May, the band will be releasing their debut EP "Nowhere To Be", a collection of five songs

that are rich with memorable hooks, honest stories and luscious harmonies. The first single

from the EP "Cold Hands", was met with a warm reception and the band expanded their already

growing following as the track was added to over 70 radio stations across Australia, America

and The UK. Building on the foundation made by previous singles "Looking Glass", "Daydream

Author" and "1960s", "Cold Hands" signalled an important development in the band's sound and

commitment to their creative cause. The result of years of writing, touring and mateship, the

"Nowhere To Be" EP is a major milestone for a band who has big plans for the future.

Since the band's inception, there has been an organic comradery between the four members

who met at The Australian National University in Canberra. Having moved from their respective

towns in Bathurst and Sydney, the group developed a strong bond through their shared love for

music, something that is visible every time The Tipsy Scholars step on stage together. The

passion for performing combined with the band's persistence and work ethic has seen them

perform at some of Australia's biggest music festivals such as The National Folk Festival, Lost

Paradise and Inland Sea of Sounds. They have held held residencies at iconic Sydney venues

Coogee Bay Hotel and Hotel Steyne, the band have also be called on to support the likes of

Thirsty Merc, Polish Club, Client Liaison, Lime Cordiale, Alice Ivy, Castlecomer, Touch Sensitive

and Andrew Farris of INXS fame.

To celebrate the release of the "Nowhere To Be" EP The Tipsy Scholars will be undertaking a

massive tour along the country's East Coast, visiting both major cities and rural towns alike. In

their biggest tour to date, the Sydney/Canberra based lads will have both loyal fans and eager

newcomers dancing, singing and drinking side by side as they perform songs from the new EP

as well as some old favourites. After the Australian tour wraps up in early August, the band will

then head on their first overseas tour to the United Kingdom. Performing at festivals in Ireland,

Scotland as well as headline shows across England, the The Tipsy Scholars are keen to show

their music to a brand new audience in what will be a tour to remember!
