The Gene Ammons Project
London based saxophonist Brandon Allen brings his Gene Ammons Project to the Duke of George as part of a nationwide tour, promoting his albums "BATL Quartet LIVE" and “The Gene Ammons Project”.
Brandon pays homage to musical career of bop and soul jazz saxophone legend Gene Ammons with a stellar lineup featuring some of Perth’s most exciting players.
The group will be focusing on the funkier side of Ammons, playing music written by Ray Charles, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Beatles and Ammons himself.
Brandon grew up in Perth but relocated to London in 2000 and over the past 20 years has established himself as one of the most in demand saxophonists in the UK and Europe.
He has performed with many varied artists including Eric Clapton, Paloma Faith, Neil Diamond, Gary Husband, Stefano Di Battista, Jools Holland, US3, The Blockheads, Ronnie Cuber, Mark Nightingale and others.
He is the saxophonist in the Kyle Eastwood Band, touring internationally for the past 5 years as well as being heavily featured on 3 of Kyle's critically acclaimed albums.
He has opened for BB King, Pat Metheny and Kurt Elling to name a few.
Lineup:
Brandon Allen - Tenor saxophone
Brodie Stewart - Piano/keyboards
Karl Florisson - Acoustic/electric bass
Danny Susnjar - Drums
"Brandon Allen is arguably the most exciting tenor player in Britain today. His phrasing is unashamedly emotional, soaked in the blues tradition."
