Surprise Chef ‘Velodrome b/w Spring’s Theme’ 45 launch with Big Yawn, Mindy Meng Wang, Miss Goldie + Shio B2B Lloyd Briggs

Crown Ruler and College Of Knowledge Records present cinematic instrumental soul journeymen Surprise Chef launching their new 45 ‘Velodrome b/w Spring’s Theme’ with a full venue takeover of Howler, joined by Big Yawn, Mindy Meng Wang, Miss Goldie and Shio B2B Lloyd Briggs.

In their last show before they venture overseas to tour Europe and the USA, Surprise Chef celebrate the release of their first 45 for heavyweight New York soul label Big Crown Records.

Linking with Crown Ruler for a full venue party, Surprise Chef will be joined in the band room by experimental electronic quartet Big Yawn (Research Records), breathtaking Chinese-Australian guzheng player Mindy Weng Wang王萌 (Music In Exile) and Australia’s undisputed queen of rare soul Miss Goldie (Boss Action PBS106.7fm), with dynamic selectors of only the baddest tunes Shio (Eternal Rhythm PBS106.7FM) and Lloyd Briggs (Deeep Space PBS106.7FM) going back to back all night in the beer garden.

Surprise Chef’s music is based on evoking mood; their vivid arrangements utilise time and space to build soundscapes that invite the listener into their world. The quintet’s distinct sound pulls from 70s film scores, the funkier side of jazz, and the samples that form the foundation of hip hop. They push the boundaries of instrumental soul and funk with their own approach honed by countless hours in the studio, studying the masters, and perhaps most importantly, the ‘tyranny of distance’ that dictates a unique perspective to their music.

Proudly presented by Crown Ruler and College Of Knowledge Records.
