If ‘Sydney’ and ‘indie rock’ are uttered in the same sentence, so is the name ‘Sunscreen’. Born from a Newtown garage in 2017, Sunscreen’s striking guitar-pop music evokes a 90s-tinged nostalgia with it’s dreamy, yet driving quality. Led by vocalist Sarah Sykes and guitarist Alexander McDonald, Sunscreen’s entrancing live performances and songwriting have earned them support slots for DMAs, Allah Las (US) Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Nilüfer Yanya (UK), RVG, Ali Barter and Good Morning, to name a few. Having released two EPs through cult indie label Spunk! Records, 2019’s ‘Falling In An Elevator’ and 2017’s ‘Just A Drop’, Sunscreen’s songs have received airplay on Triple J and ABC Rage, as well as strong support from community radio stations nationwide. Following a previously evolving lineup, Sunscreen took the opportunity 2020 provided to enter the studio and begin writing their next body of work, a debut LP. Emerging from this hibernation with a new rhythm section in the form of bassist Ben Mulheran (Nice Biscuit) and drummer Will Blackburn (FLOWERTRUCK), the 4-piece will be debuting new songs at their first show post-pandemic at the Oxford Art Factory on November 26, with support from Lorelei.
