Steve Balbi & String Ensemble
Navigating a wistful path from melancholy through madness, meanwhile exploring heterogeneity, refinement and dirty rotten groove, is Steve Balbi's first single to emerge in four years, Modern Love.
On Saturday 24 November, to celebrate the release of his new single Modern Love, Balbi returns to Milton Theatre for an exclusive, intimate and eclectic performance featuring a string ensemble of two cellos and violin, directed by Adrian Keating (Opera Australia & Sydney Lyric Orchestra), accompanied by Beau Golden (Daniel Johns) on keys and piano.
The inherently intimate and equally eclectic incarnation appearing at Leadbelly promises a memorable evening, coalescing classical sentimentality, rock and soul, with a unique set of reimagined favourites from the back catalogue, alongside assorted out-takes and new material from Balbi's forthcoming solo album, Humans.
Inspired by Brandon Stanton's Humans of New York series, Balbi's eminently anticipated follow-up to Black Rainbow (2013) sets an entirely new course for his enigmatic artistry.
For the new work by this extraordinary composer, musician, and producer, in all its complexity, honours the virtuosity of an artist transcending the contemporary music landscape, in riff, verse and melody.
The single Modern Love is out Friday 26 October; pre-sales from Friday 21 September.
