Sissy Screens present: SHAKEDOWN
Sissy Screens is bouncing into 2019 with the Australian premiere of ‘Shakedown’, a documentary recounting the rise and demise of the Shakedown underground parties founded by and for queer black women in early-aughts Los Angeles.
Drawing from archival footage and contemplative interviews, director Leilah Weinraub chronicles the explicit and energetic performances and personal relationships of the Shakedown family, including Ronnie-Ron, Shakedown Productions’ charismatic creator and emcee; Mahogany, the legendary “mother” of the community; Egypt, their star performer; and Jazmine, the “Queen” of the scene.
