Hailing from Austinmer, a coastal town just south of Sydney, Shining Bird are a collective of friends who got together over their love of the sea, Australian cinema, Dennis Wilson's 'Pacific Ocean Blue' LP and the great Australian poet Henry Lawson. Their debut album "Leisure Coast" (2013) was met with immense critical praise. It was ranked in the Top 20 Albums on the Mess & Noise Readers Poll, ABC Radio National made it Album Of The Week, while FBi Radio nominated the band as "Best Live Act" in the 2013 SMAC Awards. Their hit single "Distant Dreaming" was also the 3rd most played track on the station that year. Shining Bird have also been the catalyst for the "Leisure Coast Sound" which put a national spotlight on the South Coast of NSW, with other bands like Hockey Dad, The Pinheads and TEES all hailing from the region and enjoying support and praise recently. The band have been invited to share the stage with a diverse range of artists including Kurt Vile, Franz Ferdinand, The Drones, PVT and Unknown Mortal Orchestra to name only a few. Shining Bird are in the final stages of completing their 2nd album, due for release in 2016. The first offering is the glorious "River Mouth", which recently took out FBi Radio's "Song of the Year" Award. It sees Shining Bird enhance their uniquely sparkling signature sound of gentle coastal psychedelic grooves, salty dreams and a healthy dose of Australian bush, sea and air.
