Shandy is turning TWO years old!

After spending years craving for a party and space where queers could get down and boogie together, and find connection, community, and emancipation on the dancefloor, Thomas (aka Sweaty Baby) took up an offer to host a party after some bands on a Friday night at Black Bear Lodge - and so the very first 'Shandy - Queer Dance Party' was held on 29th March 2019.

From our humble beginnings, we’ve all grown together into a pumping heaving community of sweaty queers, gathering together to move our bodies to the beat and witness the incredible talent and work of our community. Not only that, but we've shown the country that Meanjin queers know how to party like no one else: with unmatched joy and warmth (literally lol – it’s the humidity).

We were sadly denied a chance to celebrate our birthday last year due to the pandemic, and so we are desperate to burst out of our birthday cake and onto the stage for your enjoyment!

Shandy's Birthday Bonanza

After our début at The Tivoli in January, we're so pleased to be back to celebrate our birthday. But we won't keep you waiting, we're going to crack open the over-engineered piñata and share the incredible local talent that will be gracing the stage for the evening:

TICKETS

First release tickets are available for $30 + booking fee - with a final release of tickets available for $35 + booking fee. Beware that we expect the event to sell out before the evening, so tickets may not be available for purchase on the night at the door.

We will have a limited number of free and reduced price tickets available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and any people who can't afford the ticket price. To gain access to this scheme, please message the Shandy Facebook page or Instagram for more information.

NOTES FOR THE EVENING

We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we hold this event on, and pay respects to its Elders, past and present - and also pay respects and offer our love to the First Nations community attending. Sovereignty was never ceded.

As always, please don't assume any one's gender or pronouns - give people a compliment and ask what pronouns they use.

We want people to feel as safe and welcome as possible, so feel free to message the Shandy Instagram or Facebook page with any queries or concerns.

The bathrooms will not be gendered - they either have urinals, or don't.

Finally, we will be holding Shandy in a space that is wheelchair accessible! But if you have specific access requirements, please don't hesitate to let us know so we can make your arrival as smooth as possible.
