Laneway Presents, Monster Children & FBi Bring You
Further to their appearances on the upcoming St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Pond have now also announced two headline shows in celebration of their upcoming new album Man It Feels Like Space Again: Tuesday 3rd February at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, and an intimate show at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Thursday 5th February. With this new album release on the eve of Laneway, these shows will be the first showcase of their new music; undoubtedly, a rousing and thrillingly explosive performance awaits.
Pond will be joined by local garage outfit The Shabbab in Melbourne, and the latest Spinning Top family member (joining Pond, Allbrook/Avery and Tame Impala) Peter Bibby in Sydney.
Beckoning the arrival of Man It Feels Like Space Again on Friday 23rd January, the band also today unveil its warped pop crown - second single, Zond. Watch the Lord Fascinator directed Zond video here.
Filmed in December on their arrival home from extensive American touring, the Zond video was captured at Melbourne's WESTWORLD with a host of local collaborators. On the bold and inspired video, Lord Fascinator writes: "Probably the hardest part of making this was finding three elderly citizens who looked identical to what our computer projections told us Jay, Joe and Nick will look like in the twilight of their lives. The Jeff Koons inspired inflatable toy band was brilliantly sculpted by our monster maker, Hayley Callander. The conjoined twin scene was a little trickier as we used stem cells from each band member to grow an extra torso and head which we later sewed on. Now, normally this takes about 6 - 8 weeks but thanks to our friend and mentor Professor Vincenzi Vandella we were able to expedite this process in his Juggertron laboratory and have them available within mere hours. The Ben Montero artwork makes the whole thing, really - as well as the characters themselves who, to be honest, I could have just shot walking through the supermarket and it would have been just as weird and funny."
While Zond joins the sprawling preview Sitting Up On Our Crane and stomping lead single Elvis Flaming Star before it, soon the world will experience Man It Feels Like Space Again in its entirety.
Preceded by around of 4 star reviews, note UNCUT of the album, there's "Less guitar, more synth, on the ever-evolving psych-rockers playful sixth - jammed with so many euphoric moments that it might have been created for a hook-writing competition". Rolling Stone name the record "boundary-pushing studio-psych", while Q Magazine say it's simply "their best yet ".
Man It Feels Like Space Again is available for pre-order via the POND store on CD and Vinyl LP with bonus tote bag. A limited edition of signed CDs are offered by JB Hi-Fi, while those who order the album from iTunes will receive MP3s for Zond, Elvis' Flaming Star and Sitting Up On Our Crane instantly.
