“I would recommend anyone with a vested interest in enjoying life to give NO CIGAR a listen” – Ambient Light

“Willy Ferrier, on main vocals, had an emotionality to his voice that was expressive and unique to find within the mix of an indie-pop band”. – 13th Floor

Fresh off the back of their New Zealand tour NO CIGAR are announcing their debut forray across the ditch. On the tail wind of their debut album ‘Bienvenido’ the band are looking forward to sharing their live sound with their patient fans in Australia. An album that was designed for the live-experience these shows won’t be ones to miss.

“Bienvenido” Spanish for Welcome, and undoubtedly what NO CIGAR’s growing legion of fans will be saying about the Auckland band’s 11 track debut album.

Featuring Willy Ferrier’s signature laidback vocals, expert song writing and the bands effortlessly cool tones, the album comes after four single releases in four months, including runaway hit ‘Some Nights’, ‘Holiday’, ‘Black Hole’ and ‘Say No More’.

After releasing their debut EP Radical Road in 2020, the Connor Jaine (Mako Road) produced Bienvenido is the band’s first album. The result is confident, engaging and perfectly poised to bring the five piece band the recognition they richly deserve.

With themes ranging from the prickling anxiety of walking into a club and struggling to match the energy in that space (Say No More) to wanting to change yourself to be with someone who you know is attracted to the opposite sex (Some Nights), NO CIGAR have never been a band to shy away from packaging up broad immense themes, delivered with their trademark chill guitars. There are licks and hooks featured throughout the album, that will inevitably make for eleven brand new earworms.

Recorded in sunny, laid-back Mangawhai, Beinvenido is a product of the pandemic, and an album finally able to breathe its life. Of it’s conception, NO CIGAR say:

“When the bars, clubs and even the borders shut their doors, we had to look inward for an escape. In a strange way, if not for the pandemic, the first album we released would look very different. That’s because amid all the uncertainty, with gigs, festivals and tours all being organised only to be cancelled time and time again, we made a call. We decided to not book anything and instead focus inwards on the music....We all decided to ditch the ghost town Auckland had become and escape to Mangawhai, NO CIGAR’S spiritual home.’

The sound of the beach, in this case Mangawhai is present throughout the album. It’s a perfect accompaniment to the forthcoming summer season arriving with plenty of time to become an instant summer classic.

Since the band’s inception in 2019 , the boys have grown a fiercely loyal fanbase while dodging lockdowns, playing sold out shows at Auckland’s Galatos, Tuning Fork, Whammy and Sweat Shop, opening for Mako Road at the iconic Powerstation and playing across the festival circuit including Rhythm and Vines, Outfield Festival and That Weekend. They have already surpassed over 3.5 million streams on Spotify alone with 125,000+ monthly listeners.

Bienvenido. Welcome. NO CIGAR has officially arrived.
