Rivers that sing, Trees that grin, Songs that ride on the wind. Men From Earth takes Folk to the Mountain and conjures a wildwood dream.

Men From Earth are a diverse collective of passionate musicians. Four generations (ages range from 21 to 62), of players, honest heartfelt lyric, sound and vocal harmony. A band which effortlessly strings together the threads of blues, folk, country and celtic roots. Scott Bird, the bands leader and musical director (vocal, guitar, harmonica), is joined by Tom Beasley (mandolin, banjo and vocals), Luke Wright (mandocello, acoustic guitar and vocals) and Robert Patey-Downes (percussion and vocals)

The key is simplicity. It's not about music from the head, it's about music from the heart. This is an ethos Bird has stuck to his entire life playing music, which began in his early teens. The approach solidified in the late '80s and continued through the '90s when Bird was a founding member of Pale Riders, a group who essentially pre-dated the nu-roots wave, which crested in the early '00s with the likes of Ben Harper, Xavier Rudd and John Butler.

Men From Earth will be touring Australia over the summer season to support the release of their debut album 'Wildwood Echoes' which is a collection of songs rich with intent. They deal in part with finding a sense of peace, but more important, as Bird says, the album, lyrically, "is about connection. I have a really strong connection with the land, that's where everything comes from." The first single 'Shine' holds true with its combination of sweet mandolin and simple melodic hook. The album was recorded live to tape at Albert's Studios in Sydney with James Gillard joining on double bass. It is, as Bird says, "real, both lyrically and sonically". The results are quite stunning.

"Imagine the raw power of these gritty folksongs blasting from a festival pa. Imagine the sonic gut-punch of these foot-stomping blues. Men from Earth make songs that can, should, must! - be played loud and live. No bells and whistles here, no smooth edges. Turn Wildwood Echoes up - then show up to their next gig". Rob Hirst - Midnight Oil / Backsliders

Wildwood Echoes is available on vinyl, CD and digital. Visit MFE's website for details www.menfromearth.com.
