Original jazz, funk & fusion from two of Sydney's hardest hitting bands.

The 'Meme Wars' band is pianist /composer Gavin Ahearn’s latest genre defying ‘super group’ whose unique live sets are made up of a non-stop 'feed' of music with each song flowing into the next. The repertoire showcases Ahearn’s disparate influences covering Neo Soul, Jazz Fusion, Beats, Freestyle Hip Hop & Funk. The band is made up of some of Sydney's finest jazz and contemporary musicians. Featuring the searing & soulful vocals from rising star Steph Russell, Leah Wilkie - vocals & keys, Gavin Ahearn - Keys & MD, Yutaro Okuda - guitar, Alex Hirlian - drums, Dave Quinn - bass, Chris Fields - percussion, Karl Laskowski - tenor sax, Simon Ferenci - trumpet, Jason Bruer - alto & soprano saxes, and PSmurf - freestyle rap. 

Rambo draws inspiration from the early jazz/funk greats of the 70’s, the likes of Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, The Brecker Brothers, Weather report and John Scofield to name but a few. 

A repertoire made up of all original material - written by various members of the group - their aim is to bring the jazz funk sound back to the Sydney scene. Rambo boasts a stellar line up of some of Sydney’s finest musicians which includes Simon Ashton on drums, Gavin Ahearn on keys and Karl Laskowski on saxophone.
