Matty T Wall Band - Two Sides of The Blues

This is your last chance to catch the internationally acclaimed Matty T Wall band before they head off to the east coast for a run of some of Australia’s best blues festivals. This one-off night will be Two Sides Of The Blues - a real Jekyll and Hyde. Starting from the sweet Chicago BB King era blues to the British Blues Boom, to 70s Texas funk blues and beyond with guest piano from Gordon Cant– finishing the night with a set of multiple award-nominated Matty T Wall contemporary Roots/Rock/Blues trio originals. Hold onto your hats, they will end the night with a bang.

It’s all been onwards and upwards internationally since Matty T Wall released his second album, Sidewinder, in July, 2018. Only recently, the band and the album has received multiple nominations in the 2019 Independent Blues Awards, alongside Grammy Award winners like Buddy Guy and other behemoths of the US blues culture.   Also snaring a nomination for Best Blues Rock Band, this is the same band you will get to see in action during this run of winter shows. To add to this, two Matty T Wall originals were recently nominated in the International Songwriting Competition’s ‘Blues Category’ and ‘Instrumental Category’ and have been charting in the Netherlands. This marks the fifth time Wall has hit the Dutch Top 100, joining previous chartbusters Sidewinder, Broken Heart Tattoo, Burnin’ Up Burnin’ Down and This Is Real, the latter trio from his debut album, 2016’s Blue Skies. It’s a continuation of international acclaim for Wall, starting with Blues Skies’ 2016 Nomination for ‘Best Contemporary Blues Album’ at the Independent Music Awards in New York. The singer/guitarist has found over time that he strikes a chord best, internationally, when he lands on the line between traditional blues and edgy genre experimentation… “To me, it’s gotta be honest. I’m not an African-American guy living in the ‘50s or ‘60s; I’m a guy from Perth with three kids and I’ve got influences that are different. I’m just being honest to my music.   I think that’s all you can do… you’ve gotta connect with your audience and if you’re honest, you will.”

Wall and his cracking band (Stephen Walker on bass with drummer Ric Whittle) have a lively dancecard of gigs coming up, including this Dinner-Show at the stunning Duke Of George in Fremantle, for some traditional blues tunes. It’ll provide a chance to showcase a fulsome view of Matty T Wall’s blues vision, starting from the early electric blues and leaping into the 21st century with all the influences of the 70s/80s/90s rock and pop thrown in.
