Duke of George presents

Matty T Wall Band

Matty T Wall’s Birthday Blues Bash is back on for 2022.  Featuring 3 heavyweights of the WA Music & Blues scene, none other than the Grammy winning Lucky Oceans, Solo superstar Andrew Winton, and the absolutely incredible harmonica player – “Belly” McClelland – From Blue Shaddy!

All three are blues masters in their own right, and this evening will feature seven-time independent blues award nominee – Matty T Wall, plus all three together on stage jamming over their favourite blues standards to celebrate Matty’s birthday once again.

Last time this event happened, it was a spectacle to behold for those blues fans out there, reminiscent of something that could happen in Buddy Guy’s Legends club in Chicago, but in none other than our favourite swanky New Orleans style Freo venue – the Duke of George.  Tickets are limited to this, so you must get in fast, as this is a seated table show.  A show like none other!

Matty T Wall:

From sweet blues to gritty, stomping, blues-rocking beats, and now having seven nominations in the prestigious Independent Blues Awards in the USA, a Western Australian Music Award win and three back-to-back Number One Australian Blues albums, this is a breakout Australian blues artist you do not want to miss out on seeing, as the Matty T Wall band returns to the stage more motivated and addictively electric than ever with two killer rhythm legends of the scene, Ric Whittle on drums and Leigh Miller on bass guitar.

2019 saw Wall duetting with USA blues guitar legends such as Walter Trout, Eric Gales, Kirk Fletcher, Kid Ramos and fellow West Australian, Dave Hole, and following that up with a scorching live album “Live Down Underground” for 2022 – this band is making waves at major Blues Festivals across Australia.

"I've been aware of Matty for a while now and have been a big fan"-Walter Trout

"I’ve watched as he's gained in stature to become a major league blues-rocker” -Dave Hole

“I'm, sure everyone will love this. The guy is a picker"-Eric Gales

Lucky Oceans:

Lucky Oceans is a national treasure that comes along once in a generation. Philadelphia's loss was our gain. People like Lucky come along once in a generation - 2 time Grammy award winner, one of a handful of virtuoso pedal steel players in the world, self made musicologist, legendary performer and broadcaster who has championed local musicians and introduced Australian audiences to a world of music.

And a direct link to the blues. Lucky was once Big Joe Williams', (the last of the itinerant delta bluesmen) chauffeur in Chicago as a young'un in the windy city. He has a depth and understanding of music and culture few possess. He was THERE.

Andrew Winton:

Andrew Winton, the younger brother of famed author Tim Winton, initially played drums before moving on to play electric guitar. He completing a degree in Jazz at the Conservatorium of Music in Perth.

Winton performed with Adam Brand before joining a Funk Rock band, 3Ph, which in 1997 won Western Australia's Next Big Thing competition.

In 2002 he decided to embark on a solo career, switching to dobro and slide guitars. Winton released his debut album, Barrel of Monkeys, in 2003. In 2006 Winton released his second album, The Decompression Chamber and also won an Australian Songwriter's Association Award in the Folk/Acoustic category. In 2007, Winton was nominated for a Western Australian Music Industry Awards for "Best Blues/Roots Artist", he was nominated again in 2008 for "Best Guitarist", and in 2009 received two nominations for "Best Guitarist" and "Best Blues & Roots Act".

In 2010 he was placed third in the Folk/Acoustic category at the Australian Songwriter's Association Awards and was nominated for the Rudy Brandsma award for outstanding achievement in songwriting.

Belly from Blue Shaddy:

“one of the worlds fastest harmonica players”   - Best Instrumentalist Award (Belly McClelland) at the 2007 Blues at Broadbeach Awards.

Western Australia’s Blue Shaddy is a high energy live act who make their audience feel as though they are right there on stage with them. Always festival favourites Blue Shaddy are renowned for squeezing every last drop of energy into every performance. The high energy brilliance of Blue Shaddy has been revered for years in the Australian blues scene with emphasis on the virtuosic harmonica playing from the lightning fast Belly McClelland.
