New contemporary, energetic improvised music from important emerging voices in the Sydney scene

Poltophagy is a new collection of music written by Jack Stoneham which explores the boundaries of composed and improvised music. Improvisation is unified by intricately composed melodies, harmonies and rhythms that weave into an ever-changing tapestry of sound. Poltophagy means the chewing of food long enough to reduce it to the consistency of porridge and this band chews the music thoroughly, creating an easily digestible and enjoyable listening experience.

Kikuyu Jiem is a collaborative project led by alto saxophonist Tessie Overmyer and trumpeter Miles Rooney featuring their original compositions. This contemporary jazz ensemble draws from euro-jazz, soul, South American, and American jazz with a focus on facilitating the improvisatory voices of the ensemble members. Tessie and Miles are supported by a powerhouse rhythm section consisting of close collaborators Harry Birch, Ryu Kodama and Matt Harris.
