‘There's such emotion and believability in Lucy's voice and this one will have people screaming as they listen 'me toooooo, that's me!’ - Declan Byrne, triple j

'She's an act that's primed for a breakthrough moment. A wonderful debut.' - Pilerats

Canberra’s own Lucy Sugerman releases her debut EP ‘hurt that’s man made’.  It is, at its core, a record about a breakup. But when you look a little closer, it’s about character development, and the difficult sides of healing and trying to be an adult.

Introspective, a little self-depreciating and glaringly personal, hurt that’s man made takes ownership of heartbreak and growing up. It is indie pop that you can both dance and cry to, boasting an impressive class of collaborators headed up by Sugerman, from Eskimo Joe’s Joel Quartermain, to Australian indie darlings Hauskey and Thomas Porter and talented locals Louis Montgomery & Sam Koster.

Packed with Sugerman’s signature addictive and unforgettable pop choruses, intricate lyricism and retro-tinged production, hurt that’s man made is an ode to your inexperienced heart taking over your inexperienced head, and the tedious process of trial and error in taking back control over your life post-first love.

LUCY SUGERMAN

With a knack for confessional storytelling tied with assured pop hooks, Lucy Sugerman’s addictive and youthful energy perpetuates her music, even in her most vulnerable moments.

In 2020, Lucy was the recipient of one of APRA AMCOS’ Women in Music Mentorships as well as a part of their first ever Song Generations writing camp at ANU School of Music. Sugerman released I'd Do It All Again with LANKS as a part of his hotly anticipated double album Spirits. She then released her debut single 'i wanna kiss boys cos i'm bored' (co-written and produced with Hauskey and MUKI), premiered and spotlighted on triple J Unearthed and added to Spotify's New Music Friday AU & NZ and Indie Pop playlists.

This was followed by 'colour blind', co-written and produced with Dylan Nash (Dean Lewis, Eluera, Shannen James, The Million), with a sold-out single launch at the Lord Gladstone in Sydney in February 2021. Lucy was also selected to be a part of APRA AMCOS' SongHubs Melbourne 2021, the first ever all women and non-binary identifying songwriting sessions of its kind, alongside the likes of Alex Lahey, Odette, Woodes, and guest writers Montaigne & G Flip curated by Gretta Ray. She also opened SummerSalt Festival in Canberra, joining a lineup alongside Montaigne, Boy & Bear, John Butler, the Teskey Brothers and the Cat Empire. Lucy released singles, ‘golden boy’ and  'trust nobody' ahead of her debut EP ‘hurt that’s man made’ (releasing Nov 18th).

PARKLANDS

Parklands is a Canberra based rock and roll band with a penchant for bouncing tunes and hard hitting lyrics. Born in the sheds and backrooms (or wherever they could fit a drum kit) of Wagga Wagga, the band cultivated a sound focusing on turning every set into an energetic journey.

With a hunger to play any and every gig, over their young career they’ve managed a number of sold out shows and have been lucky enough to play with plenty of other compelling artists such as Hands Like Houses, OK Hotel, Citizen Kay, Sputnik Sweetheart and Sesame Gurl, along with a whole host of Canberra natives.

Parklands is gearing up for a busy year with plenty of planned projects, merch and as many shows as possible because hey, that’s Rock n’ Roll, baby.

ZUKO.

Uncomfortable feelings with a pop sensibility.
