Event Details

An afternoon and evening of essential funk and soul with the one, the only, the legendary Kashmere Stage Band.

KASHMERE STAGE BAND

Kashmere High School is located in a black neighborhood in Houston, Texas. In 1967, music teacher Conrad O. Johnson formed a band with his students at Kashmere High School that combined the passion of soul and the energy of funk with the dexterous arrangements of big band jazz. So began the 45-year legacy of the legendary Kashmere Stage Band, with inspirational teaching, racial pride and instrumental prowess conjuring up orchestral funk.

The band's recordings have been collected by crate-diggers, feted (and sampled) by luminaries like DJ Shadow, and reissued by respected label Stones Throw. This program combines the heart-warming, foot-stomping tribute of award-winning Kashmere Stage Band documentary Thunder Soul, narrated by Jamie Foxx, with a rare live performance by members of the reunited band.

By arrangement with Funkdafied.

"If you've never heard of the  Kashmere Stage Band, by the end of Thunder Soul you will wonder why"  - New York Times

THE CACTUS CHANNEL

The Cactus Channel are a ten-piece funk orchestra straight out of Princess Hill High School in inner-city Melbourne. Turning heads with their raw, loose and nasty funk, the band are hot on the trails of the release of their first full length LP in 2012, Haptics.

Joining the Party will be DJ JC Funkafied and DJ OBLIVEUS.
