“One of Australia’s finest lyricists” (Timber & Steel) John Flanagan is known for his delicately-crafted vignettes of life, love and longing. For this one-off show he will be performing for the first time with a new 7-piece band featuring rhythm section and horns (members of Hoodoo Mayhem Brass Band). Channeling the raw and soulful folk-rock of the 70s -including Jackson Brown and Van Morrison- the show will feature the songs and sound of Flanagan’s forthcoming album. Over the past 2 years he has been working on the album with 7-time Grammy nominated engineer Erick Jaskowiak (The Waifs, Colin Hay).
Flanagan’s warm, stirring vocals and engaging storytelling style have made him a favourite on the Australian folk festival circuit. In 2019 John toured outback and regional Australian towns for 7 weeks as part of the Festival of Small Halls.
Opening the night will be acclaimed Central Victorian singer and songwriter, Maggie Rigby. For the last decade of her life she has been traveling the world, playing festivals, making records and winning awards as one half of beloved folk band The Maes. Playing a collection of songs written on her front porch in lockdown, 2021, it turns out that audiences so far are enjoying them far more in 2022 than her dog did at the time.
