Coming to terms with your identity is no easy feat when you’re a queer child of immigrants with traditional cultural values. Through a decade of confusion, self loathing and isolation eventually comes the calm after the storm. Typhoon is the storm that broke the ceiling and pushed a young Chinese-Australian boy to finally face his demons. The six track chronological EP tells the tale of a friendship fallout, unrequited heartbreak, drama and how catching rogue feelings for an unsuspecting old high school friend literally dragged his ass out of the closet. Typhoon EP Launch is a night to honour this incredible story and a celebration of overcoming this huge milestone of self acceptance.

“Through writing this EP, it’s helped me process each and every difficult emotion on the

journey. I had lived 20 years of my life hiding this big secret and holding such weight of

shame... That starting the domino effect of confessing was a point of no return. This

extremely uncomfortable element of unchartered territory surrounding my identity gave

this already tricky romantic situation a supercharged emotional weight…

…. I can only dream that through sharing this story, it can help someone else going through something similar or even simply struggling with their identity. I’ve come out of this Typhoon the most authentically myself I’ve ever been & finally not only got to know myself but present myself in public for the first time as my whole self, unashamed and

dare I say it - proud.”

Bringing his very talented friends and incredible humans Nicole Issa, ETHAN & PEY PEY as support acts for the ride, the night is a celebration of diverse voices and overcoming adversity through a big, brash, bold evening of pop music.

Sydney’s singer/songwriter JËVA is the queer Chinese-Australian rising pop prince he wishes he saw making music when he was younger. After 2 years of releasing his widely praised singles (endorsed by tastemakers such as Tones & I, Pilerats, Project U, Purple Sneakers, Cool Accidents, Triple J Unearthed, JOYFM, FBi Radio, Tik Tok Editorial playlists) JËVA has finally released the culmination of his work, the highly anticipated debut pop arrival Typhoon EP. Blending his childhood influences of 2000s RnB, K-Pop and the personal, intimate songwriting of Taylor Swift to document & reflect on his life through music, he’s looking to give back to pop… the genre that raised him and was there for him when he needed it. Despite the setbacks of COVID, JËVA persevered in releasing music independently that has now accumulated to the release Typhoon EP (October 14th) his coming out story.
