Raw neo-soul powerhouse Izy launch their debut album Irene on Hopestreet Recordings

“IZY is the nucleus of what’s to become known as SOUL REBORN” – Osunlade

After relocating to Melbourne from Cairns, Izy have become an almost-overnight force on the landscape of Melbourne soul. Their debut album Irene, a 10-track document of the band’s exuberant musicality, marks their arrival as both a formidable presence and a breath of fresh air.

Izy (pronounced eye-zee), are perhaps Far North Queensland’s first neo-soul export. Ryo, Warrigo and Maru, each a part of musical families from different continents, connected in the distant north of Queensland; three young men who became brothers playing music together.

In celebration of Irene’s release, Crown Ruler and Hopestreet Recordings present an all-over venue takeover of Brunswick’s Howler.

Izy will be joined by So.Crates and Soju Gang, in addition to a stellar lineup of local selectors spinning sounds in the breezy Howler beer garden.

SO.Crates is comprised of Melbourne born and raised producer SKOMES and MC Cazeaux O.S.L.O, a California born Australian resident. Their sound is a culmination of their shared love for jazz, soul and hip hop in the vein of groups such as De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and the late 90s/early 2000s Rawkus era.

Soju Gang is a DJ and multi-disciplinary creative from Naarm (Melbourne) whose name has become notorious in its nightlife and arts scene. Playing a diverse mix of sounds ranging from hip hop to jersey house, Soju Gang aims to please with her high energy, party mixes.

This event will be held on the un-ceded sovereign land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
