Event Details

Held monthly, In The Round at The Vanguard is inspired by the sessions at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, among many others, where four singer/songwriters get together to play their own songs, each others, some covers - and tell a few stories along the way. Expect a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and an incredible evening of music across two sets.

The event takes place with a unique set up; artists taking the stage on the floor of the venue, with guests invited to sit around the songwriters as they perform - just like they do at the Bluebird in Nashville!

The 12th instalment of In The Round at The Vanguard stars the night's curator Elska, along with her special guests Ayla, Steve Smyth & TAMMA.

ABOUT ELSKA

Infusing playfulness and wonder into the Australian pop music industry, Gold Coast artist ELSKA has redefined the humble harp - marrying the delicate instrument with the power of a loop pedal. Oozing charm with a new brand of breezy soulful pop, ELSKA creates melodic harp-infused pop music designed for daydreaming, road tripping and romance. Penning heart-fuelled tales of love, betrayal and finding 'the one', ELSKA loops captivating melodies with rhythmic harp beats - infusing her soulful vocal into a meander of moments we can all relate to in life and love. It's easy to get swept up in ELSKA's mesmerizing brand of pop, where timelessness is romanticized with technology.

Announcing herself to the world is not something ELSKA has taken a backseat to. In the last 18 months, ELSKA signed a management deal, recorded her EP in the UK, released a short music documentary titled, 'Heart + Harp', crafted a unique Library Tour (yep music in libraries!), and was even invited to speak at an official TEDx talk - all before releasing her debut single 'Boy'. Recorded at Brighton Electric Studios, UK with prominent British producer Dan Swift [Passenger, Snow Patrol], 'Boy' is a spritely pop number about the joys of finding love in an unconventional and unexpected way; and serves as a delightful lead in to the release of ELSKA's debut EP, which is due out in early 2019.

ABOUT AYLA

Australian singer/songwriter Ayla has achieved incredible things in her short time on the planet.
In 2014, at just 18 years of age, Ayla released 'Wish I Was' which immediately gained attention with Australian radio. The end of 2014 saw 'Wish I Was' come in at #15 on triple j's most played list; as well as gaining traction with European radio, resulting in a distribution deal with EGO Records in Italy (Emma Louise, The Jezabels).
'Wish I Was' became a remix staple in parts of Europe resulting in millions of Soundcloud and Spotify hits - her unique and beautiful vocal delivery was instantly attractive to club DJs and remix artists including Spada and Zwette.
Her next two singles 'Waiting' and 'When The World Ends' also picked up high rotation on triple j - Ayla then released her first EP When The World Ends and toured Australia - twice.
In 2016 - Ayla performed at Woodford & The Big Pineapple Festivals, and supported Asta, Husky, and Kate Miller Heidke on her national tour. Her single 'Like The Other Kids' was released in September 2016 and added to high rotation on triple j - Ayla toured nationally to capacity headline and festival audiences.
Ayla recently released her new single "Shallow End" from her forthcoming EP, due for release in 2017. She's touring nationally to support "Shallow End" in June.

ABOUT STEVE

Steve Smyth is a singer-songwriter who originally hails from the South Coast of New South Wales, but is best described these days as a world citizen. His live performances have to be experienced to be believed. Every performance is an event, every song a statement. He has a habit of putting a smile on every face in in the room, and encouraging previously unplanned whooping to erupt en masse. Having toured nationally and internationally with the likes of The Killers, Angus and Julia and Lanie Lane, from the smallest hole in the wall to the grandest theatre, Steve Smyth IS the show.

ABOUT TAMMA

Tamma is an indie soul singer-songwriter based in Melbourne. Raised in a rural town in the North Island of New Zealand, Tamma is the second youngest in a family of 6 whom all share the same love for music. Her fondest memories are of dancing around the house as a kid to the dulcet tones of her Mum and Dad playing renditions of Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Dire Straits, Bonnie Raitt, Nina Simone and more favorites. Tamma's love for neo-soul, jazz, pop and electro is evident in her music, drawing inspiration from her greatest influences such as Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Stevie Nicks, Rihanna, Beyonce, SZA, MO and Sia. Tamma finds music soul healing, and she writes songs to share her stories and connect with others - "Life is unique journey for each and every one of us, I write music that is relatable to others, with hopes I can give them some form of happiness or motivation to keep at it". Look out for her latest gig info. Tamma will be releasing her first single later this year!
