Held monthly, In The Round at Leadbelly is inspired by the sessions at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, among many others, where four singer/songwriters get together to play their own songs, each others, some covers - and tell a few stories along the way. Expect a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and an incredible evening of music across two sets.

The event takes place with a unique set up; artists taking the stage on the floor of the venue, with guests invited to sit around the songwriters as they perform - just like they do at the Bluebird in Nashville!

The 12th instalment of In The Round at Leadbelly stars the night's curator Julia Johnson with her special guests: Sean McMahon music, Katie Wighton (All Our Exes Live in Texas) and Bonniesongs.

ABOUT JULIA JOHNSON

Julia Johnson is a Sydney-based singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist. Autumn 2017 saw Johnson's first musical release "Melissa" since folding her long-standing country-folk band, the Deep Sea Sirens. Johnson has crafted a sonic world where voices and synths blend around antique folk instruments with the help of producer Sarah Belkner. Johnson has kept hold of her menagerie of traditional folk instruments, putting down her guitar to delve further in to autoharp, banjo, her vintage Casiotone MT-65 and bass synth.

ABOUT KATIE WIGHTON

Katie Wighton is one quarter of ARIA-award winning folk outfit All Our Exes Live in Texas. All Our Exes have spent the better part of the last few years touring the world supporting acts including The Backstreet Boys, Passenger and Midnight Oil in the US.

ABOUT SEAN MCMAHON

Exceptional songwriting is what has always stood out first and foremost for Melbourne artist Sean McMahon. He is a true believer in the song itself. His momentum and motivation as an artist is solely inspired by each and every song as it forms somewhere in a realm of make believe, between real life experience and desire. Largely inspired by the American songbook, its traditions and its champions, his poetic and melodic style of songwriting is loaded with confessional narratives and vivid storytelling that explore and exploit themes we may all know well, however its his ability to craft a song, the way he strings the words together and punctuates a line in perfect rhythm while dancing a melody across 3 chords that set him apart.

ABOUT BONNIESONGS

Bonnie's sweet ethereal vocals sail over the polyrhythmic backgrounds created between her guitar, percussion and vocal loops. Her imaginative lyrics tell stories of treehouses, mice, birds, flying and video games.

Described as "dreamy experimental indie folk" and compared to artists such as Bjork and Joanna Newsom, Bonniesongs is creating a unique sound in the Sydney songwriting scene.
