Event Details

Held monthly, In The Round at Leadbelly is inspired by the sessions at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, among many others, where four singer/songwriters get together to play their own songs, each others, some covers - and tell a few stories along the way. Expect a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and an incredible evening of music across two sets.

The event takes place with a unique set up; artists taking the stage on the floor of the venue, with guests invited to sit around the songwriters as they perform - just like they do at the Bluebird in Nashville!

The 11th instalment of In The Round at Leadbelly stars the night's curator Melanie Dyer with special guests James Van Cooper, Sarah Belkner and Brendan Maclean

ABOUT MELANIE DYER

A graduate of both the NSW Talent Development Project and the CMAA Academy of Country Music, singer-songwriter Melanie Dyer is a promising young artist that is well and truly making her mark in the Australian Music Industry.

With a standing ovation from all four star judges; Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem, Seal and Joel Madden on Nine's chart-topping reality show 'The Voice' in 2012, Melanie was named 'The One That Got Away' after a stand out performance of her original song at the Blind Auditions. Melanie's performance on 'The Voice' has exceeded 117,000 views on YouTube and landed her a major record deal as a contemporary artist with Mercury Records of Universal Music Australia.

At the age of nineteen, Melanie has already received great credibility as a young songwriter. At 12 years old, she wrote her first song 'Life on the land' that became the Anthem for the Woolworths National Drought Appeal in 2007. In 2011, Melanie was commissioned by the NSW Department of Education to write the theme song for Education Week which she performed at the Opening Ceremony in Sydney. This song was also performed by students in schools all across NSW. Melanie has also supported her local community by co-writing and performing her song 'Friendly Inverell' for the Inverell Chamber of Commerce TV Commercial aired on regional networks as well as successfully hosting her own local commercial AM Radio Show 'Melanie's Country Music Magazine' weekly on 2NZ Inverell for over 2 years. Melanie is also a proud Ambassador for Variety the Children's Charity, who sponsored her for a number of years.

ABOUT SARAH BELKNER

Released in Feb 2017, Sydney based Sarah Belkner's empathetic world of a debut album 'But You Are, But It Has' found it's way into the ears and hearts of delighted fans and critics.

Ahead of release it garnered Double J album of the week and the video for accompanying single 'Cellophane' filmed in London by Brian Fairbarn & Karl Eccleston was premiered by Rolling Stone.

It's a dreamscape indie pop record that ferries catchy, emotional vocal hooks to a rich world of complex, subtle and layered arrangements.

Drawing attention for her enigmatic live performances, Belkner performed at The Great Escape 2017 in Brighton, UK where she was named one of the Top 8 acts by The Au Review and supported Lisa Mitchell on her UK tour. She also supported OLYMPIA on her national Australian album tour and toured the UK & Europe opening for Sarah Blasko.

The album is a true body of work, that has a new level of majestic production and ingenuity. A refreshing alternative somewhere between pop, baroque and electronic in a body of classic songwriting.

ABOUT JAMES VAN COOPER

James Van Cooper is a 21-year old singer-songwriter guitarist hailing from Sydney, Australia.   James spent his early teens playing apocalyptic metal, most notably Motley Cr e and LA Guns. By the time James was 19 he'd vanquished the metal mayhem and followed his musical compass to a sound and style that was less attention seeking than his hard rock days and a more mature, more provocative country music artiste emerged.   James Van Cooper has now developed into an Australian Americana/Country Guitar Rock performer, his sound dedicated to the stylings of cool country hipsters Jason Isbell and Ryan Adams. James is also a gifted guitarist - his playing leaves you in smoking ruins and his songwriting is beyond tweet-sized pop nonsense.

ABOUT BRENDAN MACLEAN

Independent music maker from Sydney. His last EP funbang1 reached the ARIA Top 20 and debuted at #4 on iTunes AUS. Brendan's latest music video House of Air came in at Number 3 in Vulture's Top Music Videos of 2017. He is a very clever boy.
