Human Noise Glitching Colour Album Launch
With Elizabeth Fader + Sevilles
Released on April 17, Glitching Colour is the second full-length offering from Australian indie rock band Human Noise. Based between Melbourne and Sydney, the four piece have built a reputation for making music that is both agitated and introspective.
Written under the shadows of the pandemic and the 2020 bushfires, Glitching Colour processes isolation, repetition, and anxiety. Wrestling polyrhythms, gritty synths, and rigid drum machines paint a tense backdrop for the subject matter, delivered urgently by frontman Eddie Boyd. The album’s darkness is balanced by a frustrated optimism declared across its runtime; from the post-rock euphoria of opener Weight on the Ground to the resilient playfulness of closing track Regulate. Magnolia finds warmth during lockdown through unabashed veneration of a lover stuck in another city, while Accumulation offers a mantra for patient self-care.
Co-produced with Blain Cunneen (Midnight Oil, Julia Jacklin), the forthcoming album was recorded in the winter of 2022, in a cottage on the South Coast of NSW. Tracked in the lounge room, with Blain in a tiny bedroom/control room, the record was made over 10 days amongst a tangle of leads and coffee mugs. For some moments, only the original demo tracks could bring the desired intimacy and immediacy, and so were given new life scattered throughout the final product.
Whilst marking a significant sonic page turn for the band, Glitching Colour evolves out of the unique brand of rock music established on debut LP, Animal People. Produced by Ben Edwards (Aldous Harding, Marlon Williams) and released in 2021, Animal People seized the attention of the Australian underground. Lead single, One Time, was featured as Rolling Stone Australia’s ‘Song You Need to Know,’ with other cuts enjoying high rotation on Sydney’s FBi Radio and plays on Triple J, Double J, and Triple J Unearthed. The band were named FBi’s Independent Artist of the Week and toured the album extensively across Australia.
The members of Human Noise are heavily involved in the Australian music scene, and have spent time touring and recording with other acts including Julia Jacklin, Dan Sultan, Middle Kids, and CLEWS.
Human Noise are a band to watch in 2024, surging toward the release of Glitching Colour and an ensuing national tour.
