Event Details

After 10 years with cinematic postrock band sleepmakeswaves, Otto Wicks-Green is at last launching his new project HIGHWAYS. Combining 90s grunge with 80s synths, HIGHWAYS draws influence from bands such as the War on Drugs, Failure, Porcupine Tree, Simple Minds and Tears for Fears. In a phrase: "the foo fighters go to prom". It's the texturally layered distorted guitars Wicks-Green is known for meeting disco balls and Juno synths, sparkling with aplomb by magical keyboard player Michael Cardell and held down with the driving pulse of Steve 'DW' DW on the kit. These worlds collide into a style that sings of heartbreak in a time of nostalgia, sunsets and dreamy arpeggios.

Working in deep collaboration with producer Nathan Sheehy, the band have woven the songs together into a new sound that harkens back to the past but looks forward to the future. With their forthcoming EP 'The Sky Would Fall In' to be released in 2023, this show is the debut performance of the band, showcasing their music and production for the first time live.

There's only ever one first time, so this show is a must for any fans of emotional alternative rock, post rock, and ice-rink sounds of the 80s.

HIGHWAYS is Steve De Wilde (Mammals), Keelan Butterick (Stare at the Clouds), Michael Cardell, Lachlan Ewbank (DZ Deathrays) and Otto Wicks-Green (sleepmakeswaves, steve).
