Kiwi crowd captivator Graeme James has had an amazing past 12 months. In the wake of his successful chart climbing album News From Nowhere which saw him play many high profile NZ shows alongside the likes of Tash Sultana he sparked label interest from one of the worlds most well respected and forward thinking record labels Nettwork Music Group who are know for working with acts such as The Paper Kites, Boy & Bear and Passenger. Signing with the label in May he released his first single "Wish You Well" with the new team followed by a national tour of his home country.
With over 10 million streams of his music on Spotify and as a finalist at the NZ Music Awards. Now he's continuing riding the momentum and feeding off the support he's been given from the likes of Triple J Root's N All with the announcement of a Australian tour kicking off in January 2018. The tour will see Graeme James bringing his energetic live show to the East Coast playing shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and more.
Graeme James digs deep into the meaning of the new single here - "Wish You Well was written to capture the conflicting emotions we experience during a good farewell- you really want the person to stay but you also genuinely want the best for them as they head off to new experiences and adventures. I feel like we all experience this pretty regularly these days so the song is really a 3 minute farewell party- and a pretty rowdy one at that."
Born in Nelson (New Zealand) Graeme James started out playing violin in the Netherlands as a seven year old with the desire to become a classical concert violinist. After his family moved back to New Zealand he pursued this goal throughout high school as well as branching out into folk and celtic music, playing fiddle and singing in his family's folk band playing local festivals and events.
Many years later, in desperate need of some cash to repair his car while on a New Year holiday in 2012, Graeme hit the streets of Gisborne for his first ever loop pedal busking session and the response from the public was so generous he was back on the road in two days.
A major breakthrough came later that summer in Queenstown, as he would play nightly, busking concerts to crowds of 200-300 people by the lakefront. This started to gather what would become a large, loyal and global fan base.
Known for his high energy performance featuring electric violin, guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, harmonica, beats and velveteen vocals; this is a show not to be missed. Wish him well on his adventures, by joining him for a night to celebrate and enjoy some old favourites and a sneak peek at some new tracks.
