Event Details

Goodnight Japan are a band from Sydney, Australia formed in 2016 by songwriter Abel Ibanez, bass player Gemma Conroy and drummer Joel van Gastel. Abel is also the Founder and Co-Editor of ERRR Magazine, Gemma is a science journalist and international model, and Joel is the Co-Founder of Dorian's Flowers and has played drums with Gang of Youths.

In November 2018, we released our EP "The Kitchen Is a Dangerous Place". All the tracks were recorded, mixed and produced by Ryan K Brennan (has worked with Phantastic Ferniture, Julia Jacklin, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard) and mastered by Andrew Edgson at Studios 301.

After the release of our first album, we were invited to play at the Roxy Festival in Guadalajara (Mexico) sharing stage with Future Islands, Robert DeLong, 2ManyDJs, Stone Temple Pilots, and many more.

We are currently working on our next release.

"A sound akin to something you might have heard in the 70's New York art punk scene"
-Sydney Morning Herald

"Cool and different, a lot of attitude and energy"
-NYLON Magazine

"A spectacular live show much appreciated by the people"
-MR Indie

"There's a studied quality to the shuffling indie rock this band are making. Like, if your cool older cousin put this on a mixtape for you between bands you'd only ever read about like Guided By Voices and Television you wouldn't bat an eyelid"
-triple j

"A band that comes from a faraway land and creates a special bond with the audience"
-Me Hace Ruido

"A killer rock band"
-FBi Radio

"Propulsive garage full with fuzz and emotion"
-Trouble Juice

"Touches of the muscly end of something like The Go-Betweens canon - which probably sits them comfortably alongside Rolling Blackout CF and that ilk of good #Strayan product"
-TheMusic.com.au
