Event Details

Goodnight Japan is a band from Sydney, Australia formed in 2016 by songwriter Abel Ibanez G. (Founder and Co-Editor of ERRR Magazine), bass player Gemma Conroy (international model and science journalist) and drummer, Joel van Gastel (has played with bands Gang of Youths and Jenny Broke the Window).

The band is releasing their EP The Kitchen Is a Dangerous Place, available now for streaming in our website and Spotify. All the tracks were recorded, mixed and produced by Ryan K Brennan (has worked with Phantastic Ferniture, Julia Jacklin, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard) and mastered by Andrew Edgson at Studios 301. The single Microwave has been added to several Spotify playlists and has +12k plays.

As an immediate response to this release, the band has been invited to play at the Roxy Festival (Mexico, 23rd February 2019) sharing stage with Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Future Islands and many more. Before going overseas, Goodnight Japan will celebrate all the good news playing a show on the 26th January at the Leadbelly, one of their favourite venues in Sydney. The band will donate half of the tickets sale of the night to AIME Mentoring, an Australian organisation that supports Indigenous high school students complete their studies by matching them with university student mentors.

"There's a studied quality to the shuffling indie rock this band are making. Like, if your cool older cousin put this on a mixtape for you between bands you'd only ever read about like Guided By Voices and Television you wouldn't bat an eyelid" - triple j

"A killer rock band" - FBi Radio

"Touches of the muscly end of something like The Go-Betweens canon - which probably sits them comfortably alongside Rolling Blackout CF and that ilk of good #Strayan product" - TheMusic.com.au

"Propulsive garage full with fuzz and emotion" - Trouble Juice

"A sound akin to something you might have heard in the 70's New York art punk scene" - Sydney Morning Herald

"Relying on a great voice and an eclectic talent pool to elevate them to The National like indie-rock stardom" - Dircksey Magazine
