Revel in great storytelling, unexpected voices and shared wisdom spanning the ages.

Winner Best Spoken Word at Sydney Fringe 2019 and featured in All About Women 2020 at the Sydney Opera House, Generation Women celebrates and amplifies women’s voices and creativity. Each month, six women of note read an original piece on a theme. Of those women, one is in her 20s, her 30s, her 40s, her 50s, her 60s, and her 70s+. Our diverse line-ups will make you laugh, cry, and think. Generation Women is a unique, intimate storytelling night that brings together women of all ages.

Theme: How defeat helped me grow.

We’ve all been there: rock bottom. In those moments, it’s hard to see how you’ll ever make it through—but you do. And sometimes, when life knocks you down, you get up stronger than ever. This month, we asked our multigenerational line-up to share a story of a time they experienced “failure”—be it personal or professional—and how that tough time made them a better version of themselves.

Team 20s:  Maddy Weeks is a Melbourne-based comedian, actor, writer and producer. Their on-stage presence has been described as "if a dachshund accidentally ate an entire packet of No-Doz". They are best known for their work as host of 'The Leak' and as co-producer of 'Queerly Beloved Comedy'- an all Queer profit share show.

Team 30s: Lauren Crystal is the Co-founder and Managing Director of design and tech agency Your Creative working with clients such as Afterpay, DFAT, and Victorian Women’s Trust. Lauren was named the Telstra Business Women’s Victorian Emerging Leader of the Year and is an ongoing advocate for diversity in the workplace and anti-burnout culture

Team 40s: Sonia Serin is a Melbourne based singer songwriter, acoustic  guitarist, drummer, pianist and producer. She has been praised for her soulful and sophisticated guitar playing and has performed around the world with residences in Camden- London. Sonia set up the Melbourne Acoustica label in 2018 which is used to promote and collaborate with other artists. She also produces women of the north events; which showcases female performers.

Team 50s: Cate Kennedy is a writer, editor and teacher. She has published short story collections, a novel, three poetry collections, and a travel memoir about volunteering, and is currently working on a new book set in the South Pacific. She lives in Castlemaine with her 16 year old daughter Rosie, who keeps her on her toes. Her book of short stories “Like a House in Fire” has been on the Victorian VCE syllabus for five years, so she has had the pleasure of talking to thousands of young people about the joys and benefits of writing stories.

Team 60s: Patty De’Cruz has over 30 years of experience in the business events, hospitality and tourism industries and has also recently gained her licence as a registered Marriage Celebrant.  Patty has a curious mind, a sense of fun, is passionate about her family and, of course, loves a good story!

Team 70s: Jen Jewel Brown. Author of Skyhooks Million Dollar Riff and co-author, with Tina Hutchence, of Michael, my brother: lost boy of INXS, Jen Jewel Brown has walked the planet for 70 freaking years. She's a bisexual, singleton, single mum of two young adults with five poetry books out and an ex-A&R Manager of Mushroom Records and Publishing, now working on a memoir.
