FORTUNE SHUMBA TRASH! PRODUCED BY VOX PORTENT

"Why do you take all of his bullsh**t When you ain't no toilet seat?"

From the small township of Kabokweni in Nelspruit South Africa comes, Fortune Shumba. This bold, dynamic performer, LGBTQI & women's rights activist is on a serious mission, sending a huge middle finger to toxic patriarchy through his music and latest single TRASH!

Recognised as an unapologetic voice for equality. Fortune's music reflects a powerful activism whilst he sings and raps in English, as well as his native language Swati. TRASH! inspires femmes to empower themselves by leaving destructive relationships with men. Fed up with toxic masculinity and gender based violence in South Africa and around the world Fortune Shumba took to the mic to get it all out.

"This is an extremely important song to me as it represents everything I stand for as far as every femme's right to exist in a safe and accommodative space is concerned. In light of all the femicide, homophobic attacks and domestic abuse episodes most of us experience at the hands of toxic masculinity on a daily basis I thought using my music as a tool to contribute to this new age struggle would in one way or another reach more people- victims and perpetrators alike and perhaps, raise an awareness on this sensitive issue that often gets overlooked by the mainstream media..."- Fortune Shumba

TRASH! was produced by Vox Portent. His style of music ranges from downtempo house to African rhythms combined with ambient soundscapes that explore the boundaries of dance music. The two dynamic musos (Fortune and Vox) recorded for the first time together at the end of 2017. Since then they have created numerous tracks that will be released later in the year.

"When you meet a producer like Vox, you hold on to them. You get married to them, actually. When meeting him we clicked instantly! We were speaking the same language and musically he got me. All my crazy ideas, he would help me bring them to life..." Fortune Shumba

"With TRASH! Fortune came to me with an idea in mind he told me a story, I started visualizing it and then started producing from scratch, it wasn't concrete but I rolled with it and it became so much more than I could've expected. My spirits always get lifted when I hear these songs that I've made with Fortune, it's a blessing to come across someone who shares a similar field of openness and exploration in music as I do..." Vox Portent

TRASH! is fuelled with catchy lyrics, African dance beats and powerful vocals. This single brings a whole lot of fire! Fortune's music exposes his audience to the occurrence of severe and unhealthy gender dominance while reminding us that everyone has a role to play in ending abuse. With a witty use of language, TRASH! gives the listener serious and humorous lyrical content at the same time. Fortune's writing liberates him from conventional topics, which adds to his already enticing and unconventional sound.

Fortune Shumba would also like to use this opportunity to state to the whole world...

"Currently men are hunting down women. Currently men are killing women. Femecide is a huge issue and a lot of outlets are not speaking up about this. I would love to start that conversation. If there's one happening already I would love to be a part of it and I'd like to invite everyone to stick out and speak out against gender abuse and violence against women and queer people..."

Moral of the story? "If he don't recognise a bad queen, girl please toss that goofy brother in the trash"
