Sydney NOW presents FOR FOLK SAKE!
~ live original music ~
at The Petersham Bowling Club
Come and join us on THURSDAY 1 APRIL to be spellbound by three amazing live original music acts ….
Julia Johnson plays the same menagerie of traditional folk instruments she has played since she was a child. But the past few years have seen her explode her usual approach to making music and then sew it back together with threads of sonic experimentation.
Her voice has been compared to Florence Welch, Joni Mitchell and even a 'treacherous mountain river'.
Julia is a TripleJ Unearthed awarded songwriter who has supported iconic Australian artists including Courtney Barnett, Tim Rogers, Jen Cloher, Bob Evans, and Pete Murray as well as performing at folk and contemporary music festivals such as National Folk Festival and Groovin The Moo.
“Love the playful guitar plucking and that lilt of Julia’s voice” – Zan Rowe, DoubleJ
“This confidently straddles the lines between slightly folk-tinged, rustic sounds and a bright-eyed pop sensibility, with good lyrics to boot.” Al Newstead, TripleJ
CHARLIE & JENSEN
Charlie & Jensen is a musical conversation between acoustic artists Hunter Beasley and Luke Wright. They journey through genres, shifting from vocally charged original songs, to virtuosic instrumental tunes, taking a stripped-back, raw approach to music and performance.
Having toured Australia many times, including with Italian and World Music sensation Unavantaluna, Charlie & Jensen have also pleased crowds at some of the country’s favourite Folk & Bluegrass Festivals, including The National Folk Festival, Cobargo, Dorrigo and Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Their musical chemistry is evident in their self-titled album, a collection of recordings, unedited and undeniable which saw them at the Golden Guitar awards with two award nominations.
Sound Cloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-258365157
Little Clouds are a subtly nostalgic, feel-good singer-songwriter duo from Sydney.
Nick Henderson & Emily-Rose Sarkova write lofty afternoon inspired hits and introspective midnight bangers, laced with clever lyrics and sweet chords that make you feel real good. And let's be honest - we are all in it for the feelings.
They move unassumingly between their multi-instrumentalist personalities of guitar, bass, piano, keys, synths, accordion and vocals. It is intimate. It is real. Journeys will be had.
Tickets are $20 and must be booked in advance.
All patrons must adhere to covid safe practices and check in upon entry. The venue has a limited capacity and we appreciate your cooperation remaining seated and socially distanced at all times.
