'Musically a delight..these virtuosic performers are a major discovery this year' The Guardian, UK

'Moving, breathtaking and virtuosic' Lopa Kothari, BBC Radio 3, London

Branko Ristic - 'a performer that Paganini would be proud of' [BBC Radio 3], and UK born 'nimble accordionist' [The Guardian] - Faith Ristic, form the core of this international quintet - combining the accordion, violin, effects pedal and tabor pipe with double bass and guitar to take the audience on a journey from melancholy Roma violin laments to storming 'kolos' and explorations into jazz improvisation, swing, Gypsy Rumba and Turkish and Indian influenced songs.

Transylvanian Gypsy Kings play the latest horas from Bucharest, traditional boys dances where they slap themselves, and hit pop songs devised in non-stop Romanian bars in downtown Cluj Napoca/ Kolozsv r (capital of Transylvania). Nicu (vocals, keys) and Lucian (violin) have taught members of the
Australian lady group Vardos in their regular trips to Eastern Europe to study folk and Roma (Gypsy) music. Dragomir (electric bass) is from middle European background, whose family escaped Stasi persecution. These divine examples of masculinity blend folk musics with highly danceable beats, Eastern European vocal stylings and wild instrumental improvisations.

This is an 18+ event.
