Hey Drums is a collective of female and gender minority drummers and percussionists engaged in community activities around Australia including a blog, print media, live performance and teaching events. The initiative was created in 2016 by Nat Grant, an independent drummer, percussionist, and composer from Melbourne.
Nat is passionate about subverting stereotypes around the instrument by sharing as many diverse stories as possible and creating a strong network of interesting, experienced, and awesome drummers. Check out more of their interviews with local and international artists here.
One half of touring band This Way North, Cat Leahy is a drummers drummer. She has toured and played with various Australian outfits for the past 15 years, hitting the tubs for such artists as Sal Kimber and the Rollin’ Wheel, Benny Walker, Little Wise, Miss Quincy (CAN), Heywood Williams (USA).
Studying Music Performance at Box Hill Institute, Cat has crafted her own style and sound, focusing her energy on dynamics and groove, finding passion in challenging the mould of what sounds a drumkit can create.
