Event Details

Drift are a 4 piece Wollongong based alternative/shoegaze band consisting of Callum Mccombie (Lead vocals/Guitar), Nelson Thurgate (Backing Vocals/ Lead Guitar), Marley Mondzheyovsky (Bass), Ruben Dragone (Percussion). The band formed in October 2020 amidst the pandemic crisis, and are an independent and self managed project. During the small time they have been together drift have made a name for themselves amongst the local music scene. “Outside” the first release to be out by drift was followed up by two sold out headline shows at La, La ,Las in late October 2019. Soon after finding their way into other alternative support act slots such as (Arse, Peel, Egoism and RMFC) they followed this up with two more sold out shows for their first EP release “Maybe I'm Wrong” on the 5th of February 2021. Fresh into the new year Drift landed their first support slot for wollongong band “TOTTY” for their first run of shows since the lockdown. Reaching out to Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney was an unfamiliar but amazing experience for drift. Mid 2021 highlights for drift was recording their first single “At Last” at Animal Audio in Gong along with planning for future Ep later on in the year and playing at Sydney’s factory theatre for “glider fest 2021”alongside (Grinding Eyes, Moody Beach, Peel, Micra).

At Last was recorded on 3/04/21 at a local gong studio animal audio (mixed by Chris Peruch) and mastered by Calum Newton. This is the third release for drift with plenty of new music in the works. We started bright and early in the morning and ended up going until 2am in the studio. We wanted to perfectly capture our live sound and tone for the single and spent most of the time perfecting the guitar tracks. This is the first time we've recorded in a proper studio as previous releases were done pretty DIY at home and was great having our mate Chris and his experience having someone who actually knew what sound we wanted and being able to capture it perfectly. Whilst in the studio we had our dodgy handycam with us to capture some of the hijinx and then added live footage from some of our most memorable gigs into a music video. A combination of studio, live footage and amazing visuals created by @spearheadfx "Angus black". Artwork for the single cover created by @liberatedbastard "Caitlin Elis". at last is the first glimpse of our upcoming EP.
