Brekky Boy

Montreux Jazz Award nominees Brekky Boy are a piano-driven powerhouse trio hailing from South Coast NSW. Their 2019 performance at the iconic Montreaux festival showcased a muscular trio capable of great power and depth.

Drawing on artists such as Tigran Hamasyan, GoGo Penguin, Robert Glasper & The Bad Plus, the instrumental outfit carves out an invigorating niche incorporating elements of jazz, rock, minimalism & folk. It’s a sound at once emotional and athletic.

Their hard-charging live show and modern style has established Brekky Boy as one of the most exciting young acts to watch in the Australian jazz/instrumental scene. Come blow out the cobwebs and enjoy a blast of youthful energy tied to serious talent.

“Few greater joys exist than hearing something that surprises the hell out of you – like music did when you were 16. Brekky Boy does that.” - John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald.

Rob Hamilton (Double Bass)

JAHL

JAHL is a new ensemble co-led by Australian jazz legend-in-the-making Harry Sutherland on piano and Lachy Hamilton on tenor saxophone, formed after playing in various guises as part of the Sydney jazz and improvised music scene.

Individually, the musicians are Freedman Jazz Fellowship finalists and BBM Youth Support awardees, and have played with The Australian Art Orchestra, Matt Corby, Ben Hauptmann, Patti Austin, Zela Margossian Quintet among countless others.

Harry and Lachyʼs compositions draw on a conglomerate of influences from jazz tradition, French impressionism and (oddly enough) chess openings, while the band treats their music with a collaborative approach aiding their curiosity for sonic exploration.
