Duke of George presents
David Milroy and Lucky Oceans
Join this optimistic, elusive duo for a rare, intimate evening featuring their unique and incisive compositions. David’s songs about the depth of human experience and of life in the Pilbara weave in seamlessly with Lucky’s big picture songs about difficult choices and century-spanning imaginary worlds.
David a Palyku man, is one of the key figures of WA’s Indigenous Art Renaissance, having been Artistic Director of Yirra Yaakin Theatre and a writer of award-winning plays, including ‘Windmill Baby’ and ‘Waltzing the Wilarra.’ Many of David’s beautifully crafted songs are plucked from his plays and he has been a gifted and prolific writer of songs almost since he became a professional musician in the 70s.
Lucky is a Grammy-Award winning steel guitarist and was the host of ABC RN’s beloved music show The Daily Planet for 21 years. He has come to song-writing more recently but his song, ‘The Bell,’ as sung by Jessie Gordon, was deemed by many to be ‘The Moment’ of the 2021 Fairbridge Folk Festival. This show will be only the 3rdtime for David and Lucky to parlay their friendship and creative partnership into a public presentation of their seldom heard songs. If you enjoy beautiful sounds and provocative ideas in a soiree-like atmosphere, this is a night not to be missed.
