Event Details

With a burgeoning canon of songs that embrace and attempt to verbalise her experiences as an empath, Melbourne-based D’Arcy Spiller’s music isn’t just a means of communicating her blues-pop sonic outlook but a way for the singer-songwriter to make sense of the universe as a whole.

D’Arcy is aware that her experiences are ones that might not be universally understood, but over her past two EPs - 2020’s ‘Little Demons’ and last year’s ‘Disarray’ - and heading into a forthcoming body of work heralded by new single ‘Crave’, she’s prioritising an increasingly honest lean into all facets of her personality.

‘Crave’ – her new single - expresses this yearning perfectly. Though written a few years back, its themes of sensation-seeking and reaching out for a richer experience feel born to resonate with a post-pandemic world; coupled with D’Arcy’s eclectic sonic palette, informed equally by the swamp blues of The Kills and Jack White as more hooky pop sensibilities, the result is an an evocative, stormy treatise on accepting your true desires. “‘Crave’ is about adrenaline and that need for more. It’s about knowing I’m at a point where something needs to change,” D’Arcy nods. “It’s about losing the fear and just doing what it is that you wanna do. Covid just brought that out of me; I just don’t wanna fear anymore because people were so scared.”

Freed from the last couple of years in every sense, her next era is one exemplified by an openness to the world, herself and anything out there that could be even bigger.

“On this project I just want people to experience my world, which is not even necessarily the spiritual world,” she says emphatically. “It’s just about allowing yourself to open up your mind and not be afraid of the weirder shit.”
