Back by popular demand, Australia’s first lady of soul Christine Anu will be electrifying the stage once more in REWIND - The Aretha Franklin Songbook at iconic Sydney venue The Basement.

For one night only on FRIDAY 16, December 2016 Christine will be singing memorable renditions of the queen of soul's most revered songs including Respect, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Chain of Fools and Today I Sing The Blues.

"Aretha Franklin is a true legend which is why I'm always excited to sing her songs which are universally adored by everyone," says Christine. "Her magic introduced me to a whole new audience and for this, I will forever love her."

The show, which toured nationally to packed audiences in 2012, received rave reviews. Critics have described Christine's performance as "elegant, powerful and seductive" and praised the gig for "capturing and celebrating the high standard of live Australian music and artists today". Fans of Christine's other mega music hits will also love the show. Her most anthemic pop songs including My Island Home and Sunshine on a Rainy Day also round out the performance, showcasing her incredible diversity.

Long known as Sydney's premier live venue for jazz and soul, The Basement, situated near The Rocks, is a stylish, custom-built performance venue which has hosted some of the world's most famous artists. It is the perfect venue for REWIND - The Aretha Franklin Songbook .

"I've performed the show several times at The Basement over the last few years," says Christine. "Singing there is always such a huge thrill. It has an amazing atmosphere given that it's one of Australia's most iconic music venues which has been going strong for over 40 years. I'm honoured to be back there."

Christine's successful tour of REWIND - The Aretha Franklin Songbook already toured around the country at such renowned venues as Bennetts Lane Jazz Club in Melbourne, Ellington Jazz Club in Perth, Old Museum in Brisbane and Lizottes in Newcastle. The show was also a headline act at the Phillip Island Jazz Festival on Phillip Island.

James Valentine and The Inner West Voices will be joining Christine Anu on stage.

James Valentine is currently presenter of 702 ABC Sydney Afternoons, and ABC TV's The Mix, but back in the day - he blew out some of the great sax solos of 80' Australian Rock. James recorded and toured with Models, Absent Friends, Wendy Matthews Band, Kate Ceberano, Pseudo Echo, Steve Cummings and many more.

The Inner West Voices is a not-for-profit community choir for adults. They sing contemporary, pop, gospel, traditional and folk music. The choir is open to everyone from novice to professional musician and is about improving vocal skills in a fun and supportive environment.

ABOUT CHRISTINE ANU...

During an illustrious career spanning more than two decades, Christine has amassed a multitude of achievements spanning across music, theatre, dance, film, television and children's entertainment. Christine is a multi-ARIA nominee and recipient, has had platinum and gold albums, a Green Room Award for Best Actress in a Musical, won song of the year (for My Island Home) and is an eight-time Deadly Award recipient. Yet there is no slowing down for this talented artist. She recently starred as Bloody Mary in Opera Australia's production of South Pacific and will soon grace our screens in the new ABC3 drama series Ready for This. Christine will also play Motormouth Maybelle in Harvest Rain Theatre Company's production of Hairspray in 2016. She continues to have success after success.
