cate guirguis - competition single launch
Join cate guirguis as she launches her sophomore single 'competition,' with support from Skirtless and Katie Reid.
cate guirguis is a singer songwriter from Sydney who makes indie-pop music featuring gentle melodies and evocative lyrics. Her live looping brings theatricality to her show, adding luscious textures to her music, and conveying her obsession with vocal layering, drawn from years of choral experience. Musically inspired by the likes of Missy Higgins, Gracie Abrams and Taylor Swift, her music aims to touch audiences through its relatability. cate’s sophomore single ‘competition’ is an introspective indie pop track about feeling stuck between two people who love and care about you.
cate recently made her festival debut at Play on the Plains 2024 in Deniliquin, sharing a stage with local legends such as Kita Alexander, Alex Lahey and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
Skirtless is a dynamic, female-fronted pop-rock band from Western Sydney, Australia, celebrated for their high-energy performances and bold exploration of femininity. Known for their captivating vocal harmonies and infectious hooks, Skirtless crafts a sound that’s both powerful and enjoyable. Drawing influences from 90s grunge and modern pop, their unapologetic lyrics challenge conventional views of womanhood, embracing all facets of femininity. Following the positive reception of their debut single, ‘till tomorrow’, they are thrilled to have released their next single ‘redlights’. Redlights is an ode to anyone that has felt the maddening push and pull that is casual dating culture.
Katie Reid is a Scottish/Australian indie singer/songwriter and is a hidden wonder of Sydney’s Inner West. Katie Reid got her start in music by providing backing vocals for legends like Guy Sebastian, Christine Anu and Perth rapper Drapht, and since then, she’s woven strong ties with other Australian bands, performing on the tours of Joan & the Giants, PEPTALK and Little Quirks. She also caught eyes in the 'The Great Southern Song Competition' for her song ‘Healing', earning herself first place. Drawing inspiration from indie pop queens like Kate Bush, Maggie Rogers and Holly Humberstone, Katie delicately combines soaring vocal melodies with twinkling keyboard lines and haunting lyrics. Katie released her latest single ‘Clouds’ in March 2025, accompanied by a sold out single launch at Yullis Brews. Katie’s voice strikes a balance between dreamy and mournful as it moves through her anxieties towards moving cities after a breakup.
