BUSH FIRE RELIEF JAZZ CONCERT

Four of Perth’s emerging and established jazz musicians in the music scene are coming together to present a night of incredible and engaging jazz music to raise much needed funds for the fight and recovery of the Eastern State bushfire crisis. All ticket sales for this event will be donated to the Rural Fire Service of New South Wales. The concert will feature the Tim Voutas Quartet, Annie Mitchell Duo, Nick Abbey Trio and the Victoria Newton Quartet.

Tim Voutas Quartet
Based in Perth, Tim Voutas’s piano playing is energetic and colourful. His early classical piano playing got him into music and then luckily steered him towards jazz. He graduated the Generations in Jazz (GIJ) Academy Big Band in 2013 and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2017. In 2019 he released his debut album, ‘Introducing TVQ’ and also The Island Trio’s self-titled album. Tim has also performed at the Perth International Jazz festival, internationally in Japan, Malaysia and New York and shared the stage with artists such as Migiwa Miyajima, Kate Cebrano, Julian Argüelles, Sara McDonald, Akane Ezawa and Chelsea McBride.

Annie Mitchell Duo
With a rare zest for life, Annie Mitchell will bring you a night of both joy and entertainment that will be hard to forget. With her exuberant personality she will no doubt have you kicking for more. Having sung both nationally and internationally, this academically accredited singer has a unique soulful voice that will let you travel back in time to the 1940’s with a modern youthful twist. She has developed years of experience furthering her studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, majoring in Contemporary Vocal Performance. She is an act not to be missed!

Nick Abbey Trio
Well-known for holding down the low end in many of Perth's finest jazz outfits, bassist Nick Abbey's unique instrumental stylings are complemented by his striking approach to composition. Tonight’s performance sees this National Jazz Awards finalist and four-time WAM Jazz Song of the Year winner reunited with his long-time collaborators, pianist Chris Foster and drummer Peter Evans, to present original music from each of the trio’s three members. Sit back and enjoy as their fiery camaraderie is expressed through their signature mix of beautiful melodies, rhythmic wizardry, and captivating interplay.

Victoria Newton Quartet
Victoria has been serenading audiences for many years here in Perth, and also in the UK where she was recognised as one of the most exciting and dynamic jazz singers on the London jazz scene. Her huge passion for Brazilian music sees Victoria performing cool bossa nova’s and energetic jazz sambas alongside swinging standards and beyond! Victoria had a cheeky stint as a pop star in the mid 1990s with the group Strike and their massive hit ‘U Sure Do’. After a whirlwind of TV appearances, touring to many countries around the world, Victoria returned to her first love of performing jazz and Latin music, recording her first solo album in 2004. Victoria has performed in a variety of musical settings at various venues and festivals including the Perth International Jazz Festival.  This will be a fabulously high energy set, from an impressive, exuberant personality and a great way to finish our Bushfire Relief Jazz Concert.
