What is your vision of utopia? What does it look, feel, and taste like?

The Stitchery Collective and Shandy have decided to embark on a collective imagining of utopia. We're coming together to bring you a space emancipated from the out-dated shackles of expectations and prejudice around our gender, sexuality and bodies. Imagine a space where, for one evening, cis-het norms are discarded and we step together into a glitteringly queer multiverse filled with love, acceptance and wild dancing.

Shandy and The Stitchery Collective are pleased to introduce...

BOWERYTOPIA
 friday 24th september | 8pm - 2am | the tivoli

Bowerytopia is a radical queer costume + dance party, inspired by and paying homage to the imagination and creativity of queer icon, Leigh Bowery.

Join us and be entertained by a line-up of artists, performers and DJs inspired by Leigh Bowery and curated by Shandy’s Daddy, DJ Sweaty Baby. These creative club kids can't wait to dazzle you and we're pleased to have them to navigate our way through Bowerytopia, featuring performances from...

But that's not all! The pace of the evening will continue to heighten, leading to the CLIMAX of the evening: the infamous Bowery Costume Competition!

That’s right - we want you to pay homage and channel the spirit of Bowery to create your wild and radical party looks, with prizes being awarded for the best dressed of you who transport us into alternate universes with your costumes.

The question on everyone’s lips: Who will be crowned the Queen of BOWERYTOPIA 2021? Grab a ticket and join us as we imagine a better world and live our club kid fantasies, as we search for our own personal utopias via sweaty, passionate dancing at The Tivoli - and trust us, you’ll want to start getting your costume ready now!

We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we hold this event on, the Turrbal, Jagera, and Yuggera peoples and pay respects to Elders, past and present - and also pay respects and offer our love to the First Nations community attending. Sovereignty was never ceded.

As always, please don't assume any one's gender or pronouns - give people a compliment and ask what pronouns they use.

We want people to feel as safe and welcome as possible, so feel free to message the Shandy Instagram or Facebook page with any queries or concerns.

The bathrooms will not be gendered - they either have urinals, or don't.

The Tivoli is a wheelchair accessible venue. But if you have specific access requirements, please don't hesitate to let us know so we can make your arrival as smooth as possible 😊

Racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, or transphobic behaviour/attitudes will not be tolerated. Please see the staff from Shandy or The Tivoli if someone is making you uncomfortable.
