Barrelhouse - Jessie Gordon, Lucky Oceans and Bill Lawrie

This trio exudes the spirit of the Barrelhouse: a rowdy blues bar where anything can happen. Raucous drinking songs sit alongside the group’s original creations with Jessie’s gospel-tinged grooves, Bill’s impressionistic gems and Lucky’s epic song, ‘The Bell’ which as sung by Jessie, was ‘The Moment’ of Fairbridge Festival 2021. A Barrelhouse show is an invitation to come together and contemplate the mysteries and wonders of life through song.

Barrelhouse first rolled onto the stage in 2019 with ‘The Piano Has Been Drinking,’ which featured the exceptional blues piano of Paul Gioia. But that show was to be Paul's final musical triumph. His boisterous piano and gospel depth were irreplaceable so Jessie, Lucky and Bill decided to carry on without a piano and add their own songs, which honour Paul’s indomitable warmth, intelligence and playfulness of spirit.
