Bar Open is about to celebrate its 20th birthday. That's 20 years of live music. 20 years of continuous celebration and many many friendships.

The venue was founded by Jon Perring, Andrew Portokallis and Sam Crupi, who still run it to this day. Bar Open has become a Fitzroy cultural institution and has survived "the lockout laws", Fitzroy's gentrification, economic ups and downs and being surrounded by apartments.
No small feat.

And then of course, there's Richie Twelve-Fifty's 56th Slow Grind Fever and Ben Mac's Love TV will be returning to the front window and the 20th year of Make It Up Club, the world's longest running night of improvised music.

Bar Open would to thank its staff, past and present, the many musicians and artists who have graced its stage and the mass of people who have frequented the establishment over the 20 years.
